Help & FAQ
Find answers to common questions about VeeWill and making a valid Will
Getting Started
What kind of Will does VeeWill create?
VeeWill prepares a formal, typed Will from your answers. You print it, then sign it in front of two witnesses. It is not a holograph (handwritten) Will, which must be written entirely in your own hand.
Is a VeeWill Will legally valid in Canada?
Yes, once it is printed, signed by you and witnessed as your province requires. A Will that is only saved in the app, or signed electronically, is not valid. In Québec you can also make a notarial Will with a notary.
Do I need witnesses?
Yes. Sign in front of two adult witnesses who are present at the same time, and who then sign too. A witness should not be a beneficiary, or the spouse or partner of one, or that gift may be void.
Can I start for free?
Yes. Drafting your will is free, and you don't need an account to start. Create a free account to save your progress and pick up on another device. You pay once when you choose a plan.
Which provinces does VeeWill cover?
All 10 provinces and 3 territories: Wills, powers of attorney and health care directives everywhere in Canada, written for each province's and territory's rules. Nunavut has no law for health care directives, so there VeeWill prepares Health Care Wishes: your care wishes and who you want to speak for you, which doctors and family can rely on as guidance, though it isn't legally binding. If you live outside Canada but own property here, an Expat Will covers that property.
What language is my will in?
You can use VeeWill in English, French, Turkish, Polish or German, and talk to VeeWill AI in any language. Your will is prepared in English (or French in Québec), the languages Canadian courts and banks work with. That's the version you sign, so make sure you understand it fully: if English isn't your first language, ask someone you trust or a professional to go through it with you.
Plans & Billing
What's the difference between the plans?
The Will plan gives you your Will, notes for loved ones, your funeral wishes, Release Settings (who receives what after you die) and a year of updates. Complete Protection adds a Financial Power of Attorney, a Health Care Directive, the Vault, an executor file with a checklist for your executor, and up to 5 versions of your Will.
Can I update my Will after creating it?
Yes. Edit your answers and download a new Will, then print, sign and witness it again. The newest signed Will replaces earlier ones. Every plan includes a year of VeeWill Membership, which is what lets you make changes; after that you can renew it for a year at a time.
What happens when my membership ends?
Nothing is lost. You can still download every document you made, and your Vault and notes are still released to your executor and loved ones. Editing and adding new files pause until you renew. We remind you 30 days and 7 days before it ends, and renewal never happens by itself.
What is Law Firm Signing Assistance?
An optional service that connects you with a law firm in your province to review your ready-to-sign Will and supervise the signing and witnessing. It isn't required for a valid Will. Pricing varies by province.
Executors & Release
How do I ensure my executor can access my Will?
VeeWill's Digital Vault allows you to securely store your Will and grant access to your executor. You can configure release settings that automatically notify your executor and provide access based on triggers you define, such as manual release or inactivity periods.
What happens to my Will if I move provinces?
A Will that was valid where you signed it generally stays valid after a move within Canada. Rules on spouses, witnesses and estate administration differ, though, so update your province in Settings and review your Will.
Security & Privacy
Is my personal information secure?
Your information and documents are encrypted in transit and at rest, and they're released only to the people you choose in Release Settings. We never sell your data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run VeeWill, as our Privacy Policy explains.
Can I get legal advice through VeeWill?
VeeWill helps you prepare a Will, but it isn't a law firm and doesn't give personalized legal advice. For complex situations, such as a business, property outside Canada, or a family member with a disability, consult an estate planning lawyer.
